The Personal Pronoun "I"... An AMAZING Fountain Of Information.

The one letter of the alphabet that tells us the most about our own ego and self-image, is the capital letter I. Entire books have been written about this one simple little letter, so let's take a look and see what we can learn about ourselves...

The personal pronoun I, or PPI... is made up of 3 separate parts - see Figure 1:

  • Upstroke - starts at the base and moves upward.
  • Downstroke - provides the "backbone" of the letter.
  • Endstroke - curves to the left to complete the bottom portion.

Figure 1

The initial upstroke represents your maternal relationship. While this is normally the relationship with your Mother, it can also mean a step-mother, aunt, or sister. In other words... the most significant female in your life. This is also, the nurturing parent.

It's generally accepted by handwriting analyst that the downstroke represents your ego or Self. The straighter the downstroke, the more independent and confident you are. But, if the downstroke is substantially curved, then you depend on other people for your emotional support.

The ending stroke to the left represents the paternal relationship... or the Father image. Again, this could be a step-father, uncle, or brother.

When you see a PPI with no upper loop... as in Figure 2

The maternal or Mother relationship is missing, either physically, emotionally, or both. Therefore, the maternal or Father image shows as the stronger influence.

Figure 2

When there is no ending loop... as in Figure 3

The same holds true for the Father relationship. The paternal relationship is missing and the maternal or Mother image was the stronger influence.

Figure 3

Likewise, if the PPI has no upper OR lower loop, then the relationship with BOTH parents is totally absent... perhaps either because of death or by choice.

There are varying opinions on the following trait...
writing your PPI in reverse, or the ending stroke FIRST.

Some see this as a sign of rebellion, UNLESS you were TAUGHT to write the PPI this way. Other analyst's define it as a writer who simply sees himself differently from the way others see him. So... you decide which one fit's you!

Let's look at some of the other types of PPI...

Printed or non-cursive... as in Figure 4

This is a sign of an independent, reasonable, efficient person who will put aside his personal feelings in order to consider the facts. They make their opinions and principles the number one focus in their life.

Figure 4

Larger than other capital letters...

This person has a correspondingly large ego... someone who wants to stand out in the crowd
and tries to gain status and power. If the letter is excessively larger than the rest of the letters, then this is a highly ambitious person... someone who may imagine that he/she is superior to others.

Smaller than other capital letters...

This person is often self-conscious, shy and extremely modest... almost modest to a fault. They feel inadequate and prefer to simply "blend into the woodwork".

Triangular or angular shaped... as in Figure 5.

Schools don't teach angles in the letters... this is a learned trait. Angles are a sign of rigidness, inflexibility, anger, and resentment. If the angles are in the upper loop, the anger and resentment is directed toward the maternal figure. And if the angles are in the ending loop... it is directed toward the paternal figure.

Figure 5

(Just a sidenote... mass murderer Richard Speck made his PPI with SHARP triangles in both the top and bottom loops. This doesn't mean that every person with an angular PPI is a mass murderer... it just means that there is a lot of tension and anger in the way they view their parents.)

Round or "bloated" shape... as in Figure 6.

This person is a bit childish in their behavior. He/she needs a lot of attention and mothering. And probably came from a home where they were pampered.

Figure 6

What about the slant... does that matter?

When the PPI slants to the left... as in Figure 7, you find an inhibited or introverted person... a loner. This is especially true if the remainder of the handwriting is also slanted leftward.

Figure 7

If the slant of the PPI goes rightward... as in Figure 8... you have a person who is outgoing, loves people, and feels confident about themselves and their abilities.

Figure 8

In a nutshell...

The personal pronoun I is all about your concept of YOU. It also provides an overall look at your attitudes toward and relationships with your parents... good or bad!

Til next time...
